Eastbound & Down S4.E01 [You’re Fucking Out]

While everyone was watching the series finale of Breaking Bad, I was watching the season four premiere of Eastbound & Down. The story of Kenny Powers—an ex baseball player who faked his death only to become a used car salesman.

In between seasons three and four, Kenny has gone to prison, married April and added a baby girl to his growing family. I’m not sure why their daughter is blonde, but this is TV so nothing makes sense anymore anyways. Also, KENNY WATCHES THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE WITH HIS DAUGHTER. THIS IS ALL KINDS OF FUCKED UP IN SO MANY WAYS BUT I’M NOT SURPRISED, LOL.The best part of this episode was watching Kenny slowly revert back to his old self. It all started after a disagreement with April, which lead to Kenny casually breaking a vase. His reaction was fucking priceless and his devious smirk was the first hint that Kenny was about to act a damn fool.

Machine-Gun

In the span of thirty minutes, Kenny managed to physically assault a box of donuts, punch his boss in the face and drag race with two idiots. The race in particular was my favorite part of the episode: “It’s not nice to call people faggots, faggot.”

It seems that Kenny is finding it hard to play the role of supportive husband when his wife is making more money than him. This sucks for his relationship with April, but it’s good for us viewers because we want the old Kenny back. After running into an old friend who is far more successful, Kenny goes out to party only to be reminded of the life he left behind. While the other guys ranted and raved about the cars they owned, all Kenny had to brag about was his family—which shows he’s probably in a better place than he’s willing to believe–but Kenny never could recognize a good thing when it’s right in front him. How many times has he fucked things up with April only to pine and swoon over her when she’s gone? I think their relationship is the backbone of the show, but we need some chaos or this wouldn’t be Eastbound, bitches.

I think this episode worked well as a season premiere, it tied up loose ends from last season while quickly destroying the facade that Kenny has been domesticated. But where’s Stevie? Kenny’s badass sidekick was nowhere to be found for a majority of the episode (besides the flashback to Kenny’s “funeral”)  but it looks like he’ll be returning in full form next week.
